
Dr Nikolaos Nikolaou
MD, PhD, FACS
General Surgeon, Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, PhD holder from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (EKPA).
Specialized in Laparoscopic Surgery, Bariatric Surgery of Obesity, Surgical Oncology, Upper GI Surgery, Endocrine Surgery, Colorectal/Anal Surgery.
He was born in Agios Georgios, Famagusta. He graduated with honors from the A’ Gymnasium of Famagusta. He completed his military service as a Reserve Second Lieutenant.
He studied at the Medical School of Athens where he obtained his Medical Degree with honors. He served as a Rural Doctor in the Prefecture of Grevena.
He obtained the title of his specialty in General Surgery, completing his training at the 1st Surgical Clinic of Tzaneio Hospital in Piraeus.
He worked as a Scientific Associate – Lecturer at the Surgical Clinic of the Nursing School of EKPA. He completed his Doctoral Dissertation on “New data in the surgical management of rectal cancer” and was awarded the title of Doctor of Medicine.
He was further trained with a Fulbright scholarship in Los Angeles/USA at the Trauma Center ‘LAC & University of Southern California Medical Center’ in Trauma/Acute Care Surgery & Surgical Intensive Care, and participated in research projects.
In 2010, he was elected a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He was certified by the ACS-COT (Committee on Trauma) as Instructor, Course Director, State/Faculty Member of ATLS. He taught and directed a number of Trauma programs in Cyprus, Athens, and the University of Patras.
He received further training with scholarships at Chaim Sheba, Tel Hashomer Hospital in Israel, and at Sharjah University, Dubai, in Laparoscopic Advanced Techniques in Bariatric/Metabolic Surgery of Obesity, Hernia Surgery, and Colorectal/Anal Surgery.
He also trained in the United Kingdom at Sheffield Royal Hallamshire and Northern General Hospital in Bariatric Surgery of Obesity, Upper GI Surgery (hiatal hernia, gastric tumors, esophageal diseases), and Endocrine Surgery.
He worked in the public sector until 2019, at the General Hospitals of Nicosia and Larnaca, serving as Senior Medical Officer, Assistant Director of Surgery, and Director of the Surgical Clinic of Larnaca General Hospital. He was involved in the full spectrum of general surgery, carrying out a very large number of open and laparoscopic procedures. He also contributed to the training of young doctors, nurses, and medical students. He published scientific papers in international medical journals and presented at international medical conferences, participating as a speaker in surgical congresses.
Since 2020, he has been working as a private surgeon in General Surgery within the framework of GESY.
